Breakaway Timing ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Breakaway Timing mobile application and website (the "Service"). This page explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.
When you use the Breakaway Timing tracker, we collect the following:
We do not collect email addresses, phone numbers, payment information, or any other personal identifiers beyond what you voluntarily provide.
The information collected is used solely to:
We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to live race tracking.
Location data is the core function of the app. Your GPS position is transmitted to our servers and displayed on a public map for the duration of your tracking session. Your location is visible to anyone with the link to the spectator map while tracking is active.
Tracking only occurs when you explicitly start a session by entering your bib number and tapping "Start Tracking." You can stop sharing your location at any time by tapping "Stop Tracking."
On iOS, the app requests "Always" location permission to enable background GPS updates while your screen is off. This permission is used only during an active race tracking session.
All tracking sessions expire automatically after the duration you select (4, 6, 8, or 12 hours). After expiry, your location is no longer shared and your data is removed from the active map.
Location data is stored in Google Firebase Realtime Database, hosted in the United States. Active session data is retained for the duration of your tracking session and automatically deleted after expiry. We do not retain historical location data beyond the session.
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. Your location data is visible on the public spectator map during an active session. We use Google Firebase as our data infrastructure — their privacy policy is available at firebase.google.com/support/privacy.
The Service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with information, please contact us and we will delete it.
You may stop sharing your location at any time by tapping "Stop Tracking" in the app. Because we do not collect email addresses or account information, we cannot verify identity for deletion requests — however, all session data expires and is deleted automatically within the session window you selected.

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted at this URL with an updated date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
